Why buy a 350z

Apparently there are two types of people in the world: those who think the Z is a poised, neatly shaped and muscular coupe blessed with timeless lines and a certain classless quality, and those who are wrong.

It looks fantastic for its age, with or without subtle modifications, and especially later ones. If you do want to step into the modifications scene then the Z is an easy car to flatter your sense of taste. A wide variety of rims look the business under its arches, and most colour choices look totally at ease on the swooping body.

While the Honda S made do with a responsive but gutless four-cylinder and the Boxster was fitted with a high-revving and glorious flat-six, the Z got a V6 with altogether bigger biceps.

A meaty bhp, then bhp, rising to bhp from thanks to a heavily modified engine , was teamed with up to lb ft for creamy pulling power in any gear. It was, and is, a defining feature of the car. There are only for sale on Auto Trader in the UK at the time of writing, which, compared to Boxsters, is an interesting barometer.

Colours like blue and orange are always highly sought-after, but silver and black look great too. The world is your oyster if you want to modify this car. Everything from wheels, body kits, bonnets, light clusters, spoilers, brakes, roll cages and even wide-arch body conversions are available.

If you have a vision, the Z is one of those cars best suited to letting you achieve it. Spend a little more and you can bring the age down by a few years with a similar mileage and better condition. The interior is one of the best in class, and ignoring the stiff suspension it's surprisingly comfortable. Speaking of best in class, there is nothing like it on the market. The Mustang V6, while great, is slower, heavier, feels boaty, and really needs that V8 putting it way out of class.

The Camaro may or may not look good, but suffers from essential the same thing as the Mustang. The Challenger is too impractical, even compared to the Z. The BRZ is just barely in the class and it's overpriced for what you get, to sum it up I'd say it's a "Diet Z" it's close, but not the real thing.

The Genesis V6 is actually somewhat of a contender, but everything it does right the Z does better, if you really need that back seat and the trunk space, it might be the car for you.

If you've made it this far and still think that you want the car, then get it, if it ticks all of your boxes and you're willing to live with it, then it's the right car for you. Now, me personally I didn't buy a Z, It's an amazing car, but to me it's a car that can't always be a daily driver I would personally need to own a second car for practicality and that doesn't appeal to me as a total package.

I do however think that the MX-5 is worth a look if you can't find that happy medium. I spent a fair amount of time behind the wheel of my buddy's , and test drove several s and s, but never could quite feel comfortable actually owning one right now. But to each their own. Sometimes it's not always what's under the hood, but the person behind the wheel. Paragraph's write up is a good one however I've had a z as a daily driver for nearly 3 years now, I personally don't have any problems driving it in traffic and find the standard brembo brakes on my z are nice and progressive.

I've had it since and have truly loved the car. The 3. As Paragraph stated, it is a true driver's car. The clutch is heavy and has a very definite catch point so it can take a little getting used to. The handling, steering, suspension, etc. Point and go. IMO it has a perfect combination of power and handling, which put it out of reach of the Scions, Hyundais, and Mustangs of the world.

I'm actually disappointed that the Scion is even in this discussion. Everything Paragraph said. I have a non running 86 zx that as soon as it is running, I'm going to try to trade for a z. I had a friend who had a 90's zx and he would have to literally go sideways leaving work in the snow because the highway has such a bank curve on it.

So no go in the snow, that's what a Jeep is for ;. So yes, you should buy one. But as Paragraph said, it will probably have been beat on a bit, give it a good once over. I dont want any of that street racer, teenaged BS.

Additionally, it is always a good idea to have a prospective purchase inspected by a reliable mechanic who is familiar with that manufacturer. To continue this discussion, please ask a new question. Get answers from your peers along with millions of IT pros who visit Spiceworks.

Popular Topics in Car Enthusiasts. Which of the following retains the information it's storing when the system power is turned off? It was a relatively short window in automotive history where the Nissan Z was in production.

The first coupes were available in Base, Enthusiast, Performance, Touring and Track trim levels, while the Roadster was initially limited to just Enthusiast and Touring versions. The car dutifully followed the Z-Car blueprint of a long-hood short-deck design, and the sloping fastback style arched roofline, unique brushed aluminum door handles, high waistline, and bulging fenders pushed right to the corners of the vehicle gave the Z an aggressive look that gave more than a hint of the performance available from this superb car.

As well as telling you where to go to get the very lowest prices on new and used vehicles, I also cover finance, insurance, parts, detailing and other stuff too. OEM parts for the Z are plentiful and reasonably priced, but as the Nissan Z is far more common than many exotic and expensive sports cars , there are also plenty of aftermarket manufacturers producing parts at a fraction of the price of the already affordable OEM parts.

Although the engine in the Z was updated over the years, it never moved from being a solid 3. The first version was the VQ35DE used in the and model years which produced horsepower and lb. The standard engine continued to only be offered with a five-speed automatic transmission. There are plenty of very good regular Z models still out there, but the true enthusiast or collector will probably be on the lookout for something a little more special.
